Creating machine accounts in /etc/passwd?

Hello, I've been trying to create a Samba PDC on OpenBSD 3.0. Using
this link (http://linux.dbw.org/notes/samba_notes.txt) as an example to
work from, it says to run "adduser" and append a $ to the computer name.

adduser ntbox$ -M -u 501

adduser for OpenBSD does not seem to do the job or understand the -M
option, and 'useradd' does not have a -M either. I have tried to add
these entries manually, but when I run

smbpasswd -a -m ntbox

I get the error

User blism$ does not exist in system password file (usually
/etc/passwd). Cannot add account without a valid local system user.

even though the account is there.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
