I made the same error :) I "fixed" it logging with ssh, killing mysqld
and editing rc.local. If you can't log remotely with ssh maybe you can
boot from the install floppy/cd, and then switch to a shell and edit the
rc.local. on the faq there's a paragraph that explain what to do when
someone loose it's root password. read that to know how to mount
correctly your partitions when you switch to the shell.
