symbolic links for ftp access

Hey all, I've been trying to setup a private (S)FTP
server for me and a few friends/family, but obviously
I will want to control who accesses what.

My problem is that when I put a symbolic link into the
user's directory (/usr/home/[username]) to the
filesystem I want to give them access to it doesn't
work. I've tried a lot of little tricks and looked
for docs on this but I fear that I'm a lousy admin and
am quite lost. Does anyone know how I could, for
example, give my brother access to the music
filesystem but nothing else? Thanks for any help.

This is my fs layout:
