This operation may seem laughably simple to some people…

How can I change the NIC with as little pain as possible ?

I have a box with a 3COM509 ISA NIC which was recognised/configured during the OS
installation.  

I would like to remove this NIC and replace with a D-Link DFE-530TX… (chipset =
RTL8139) hardly the best NIC on the planet, but an improvement.
