Yes, it works. I updated a couple machines already. (Hey, a patch
was distributed already. Would it not be that the tree in the
moments before the patch would be 2_9-release ?)
Anyway, two machines, one from 2_8-release, and one from 2_8-stable.
No problems. You still have to update you configs by hand. Well,
I don't like mergemaster, but that is an option.

It's probably faster to update than reinstall, unless you're
making changes that necessitate reinstallation, like changing
the size of /.
