Well, I am not sure of any answer ... but, if you check up /etc/security,
you shall find a block which has the stuff you are looking for.  Search
for the variable ALTROOT -- near it, you will find the dd command being
used for replicating a partition.  

I am not on my OpenBSD machine right now -- else I could have helped more.
