My best guess is that you are having resource issues.  3com cards are famous
for not playing nicely with others.  I'd double check to make sure you don't
have any devices sharing an irq (or using irq 9) and that they are using
different memory windows.  I suppose it is possible that you do have faulty
hardware but I know many people that use 2 or more 3c905x in openbsd
machines (myself included) without difficulty.
