login problems
I had asked this in a differnet way before, with no responses. I fixed part
of my problem, but part still remains.
I recently upgraded from OBSD 2.7 to 2.8 (i386). Most everything works,
except for the output of some commands when I'm logged in remotely (I can
log in at the console and everything works as expected).
When I SSH to the box things seem to work ok. I can move around the system
and transfer files/run programs, etc, but the output of some commands is
weird. When I do 'w' most of the output is blank. When I do 'who' a
parenthesis replaces the first character of my login name in the output.
When I do 'last' all of the usernames are blank - yet the console messages
show names correctly (sshd reports logins correctly, xferlog shows usernames
correctly, etc.)
I have no idea how to fix this - I have done a lot of searching through the
list archives and on the web, but not even sure what would be the right
terms or phrases to search for. I have upgraded several machines (from 2.6
to 2.8) without incident, so I know I'm capable :-)
Should I reinstall the box, or is there just some config file that's gotten
tweaked?
Here is the output from those commands when I'm ssh'd in as root:
