setting virtual mem with ulimit??

Greetings --

I'm trying to up my ulimit for virtual memory to allow me to compile
MySQL.
and am getting the "exhausted virtual memory" referenced in the Makefile
under ports.

According to the man page for Korn Shell I should be able to use ulimit
-v , this it returns
unknown option. What am I over looking.

Hardware: 400 mhz K6/2
Memory:	 256Mb.
OS:	OpenBSD2.7
