Please help resolve Install Problem:
Install : boot from floppy Open BSD - purchased CD from
OpenBSD.org ver2.8
PC = Dell Dimension P-75; 32MB Ram; master HD = Fujitsu MPB3043ATU
(4GB)
also in box is a 0.5 GB HD Quantum FireBall 540A and a 100MB internal
zip
install works until time to extract files
option chosen = all files
some extract
ones that do not extract are:
base28.tgz
bsd
misc28.tgz
game28.tgz
xbase28.tgz
xfont28.tgz
error messages fly by - did not record them all
often it says - "media error" and "check condition opcode 28"
on floppy boot sees fd0, hd0, hd1
(but prior to floopy boot - HD1 & 2 "installed", CD-ROM Drive
installed XFOOD1-E, and floppy installed)
in the blue highlighted data on the floppy boot it says:
cd0 at scsibus0 targ 1 lun 0: <MITSUMI,
CD-ROM !B, B04> SCSI0 5/cdrom
removable
I do not understand it - there is no scsi in this old box - the cdrom is
internal
HELP
Mark Luquette
PS:
- No CD booting on this old box
- I followed installation procedure as outlined at OpenBSD.org web
site
- FAQ's reviewed
- ? does the partition routine format the HD as well or is there a HD
formatting I could do to set a cleaner background prior to install - the HD had
RedHat 6.2 (yuk !) in prior install.
