no print to screen (was: Re: testing v 2.8)

Installation of v 2.8, Oct 21, (or 2.7 from CD) didn't allow print to
screen anymore after appr. 3 minutes, when the audichip (CMI8738/C3DX)
was enabled; dmesg (v 2.8, audiochip enabled) is at the end.

Disabling the audiochip in the BIOS did not allow print to screen
after several hours (more than 2 hours, less than 12 hours = discovered
next morning).

Furtehr, enabling the audiochip in the BIOS after first reboot, again
did not allow print to screen after appr. after 3 minutes.

Unfortunately, I had to reset in all 3 cases (mainly because there was
'no response' when pressing keys - and I didn't/ don't know any other
way to provoke print to screen again).

Summary of tech information (all SCSI, except for the int. ZIP drive):

P3-733 (Coppermine)/ 133FSB FC BOX,
1 RAM DIM 256 MB PC133 SDRAM
P6VAP-A+ mainboard (AMR), via694x & 596B, 3xSDRAM, Audiochip, U-DMA66,
for PGA-Celeron
Adaptec 29160 ultra 160 SCSI card
HDS 9.1 GB Quantum Atlas V U2LVD 68p
CDS Toshiba XM6401B, 40x, SCSI-2
FLO Teac Floppy 3.5"
Intel EtherExpress Pro 10/100
Cherry G83-6105 LRNDE PS/2 105 keys
PS/2 mouse

The board uses the VIA VT82C694X/ VT82C596B chipset, while v 2.8,
Oct 21, identifies the chipset (errorously ?) as VIA VT82C691/
VT82C598.

As you may imagine, I look forward to run OpenBSD on this box, also
because I've bought it specially for this reason and selected all
parts according to http://www.openbsd.org/i386.htm.

Please, write if additional information is required.
Any help is welcome.

Alf
