Moin.
I tried to install OpenBSD2.9 and encountered an error. This error was
reproduceable, even with slightly changed ways of installation.
First, I downloaded the i386-tree and put it on a CD. Booting and
installation went fine, until I came to installing the packages. When
the installer tried to extract files from base29.tgz it ends at around
30%. The system is not halted, the installation just doesn't continue.
I tried the installation with three different downloads from three
different servers on two different hard disks, so it can't be dead
clusters or just a defect file on one server. This error happened
every time I tried to install OBSD2.9, no matter if I chose CD-ROM or
hard disk as installation source.
I then tried to install 2.8 and that worked just fine. Though I killed
the system when I tried to upgrade to 2.9 via bootdisk and chosing
Upgrade. I had to use a custom kernel, but this problems happened
while installing on a blank disk, so this also can't be it.
I'm writing this mail under windows, so I can't attach the
dmesg-output. Anyway, here's my configuration:
Processor: AMD Athlon 750MHz (Slot A)
Mainboard: Gigabyte 7IXE-F3
RAM: 2 64 MB, 1 128 MB
HD: 2 4,3 GB SCSI, 1 20 GB IDE
CD: 48x No-Name, 8x32 TEAC CD-R58S CD recorder
SCSI-Controller: Adaptec AHA-2940, Bios 1.23
NICs: Compex ReadyLink 100ATX PCI, Compex ReadLink 2000 PCI
Gfx: Voodoo3 3000, 16 MB
Sound: Creative SoundBlaster AWE64 Gold
OBSD is on the second SCSI drive (sd1), on the other is Win2k and the
IDE disk just hosts the boot records.
