update for kernel/1793

Hello,

I couldn't find a way to update the PR I submitted so I'm sending the update here.
If there's an automatic way to update a PR, please let me know. 

Re kernel/1793, I found why it was hanging and I am to blame for this.
I made a classic mistake of leaving getty running on the same console as the
X server. I hadn't realized it for some time because in my rash of X 4.0 upgrades
the X server for some reason decided to run on tty1 and I didn't notice that
because xdm was starting it.

Anyway, that's the was it and if we close the PR with that explanation above,
hopefully somebody will benefit from my experience.
