It seems there is an issue with newer G4's where an install will panic about ten seconds into the install.
Hardware platform:
-Power Macintosh G4 (Open Firmware v3.1.1)
-Standard hardware (no third-party equipment/peripherals)
Failure sequence:
-Start system and go into Open Firmware
-"boot enet:,ofwboot cd:0,/2.9/powerpc/bsd.rd"
-install panics as follows:
"vendor "Texas Instruments", unknown product 0x8000 (class serial bus,
subclass Firewire, rev 0.04) at pci1 dev 0 function 0 not configured
"CMD Technology PCI0646" rev 0x07 at pci1 dev 1 function 0 not configured
panic: trap type 200 at 1cc018 lr 1cbf44
Stopped at 0x1b9f7c: tw 0, r2, r2,
Run at least 'trace' and 'ps' and include the output when reporting
this panic
ddb>
-System is completely hung at this point - cannot traceback or perform any
other functions except reset switch.
Repeatability:
-The above event sequence occurred on two different G4's - one with OF 3.1.1 dated 08/19/99, the other dated 01/11/00. This problem occurrs with both OBSD 2.8 and 2.9.
Any assistance that could be provided would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
