OK, where to start...
I downloaded newer floppies and tried the install again. It went further
into the process but then hung again. This is the last 5 lines -
----------------------
Cirrus Logic CL-GD5446" rev 0x00 at pci0 dev 13 function 0 not configured
sa0 at mainbus0
sadma0 at isa0
px0 at isa port 0xf0/16: using exception 16
t0 at isa0 port 0x60/16 irq 1: vga 80 col
----------------------------
Even though this hardware runs 2.7 like a rock, I removed the PCI
video card and used the motherboard video and tried again - it continues
through the install. The floppyB28 and floppyc28 disks don't detect any
SCSI hard drives. Using the floppy28 boot disk, I can select a drive and
make partitions as usual.
I get to choose FTP install and select "all" files to install and it
starts off. While fetching base28.tgz, about 65%, it crashes and shows
an error message for about 5 seconds then reboots. This is the error.
----------------------------------
code = 020043, 1num = 1280. fs = /mnt/usr
panic: ffs_valloc: dup alloc
syncing disks... 848 847 759 453 193 (more numbers)
dumping to dev 1101, offset 0
dump error 19
-----------------------------------
The numbers on the 1st and 3rd line change every time, but the remaining
message is the same.
I will be happy to try any changes or suggestions to get 2.8 loaded, but
it is purely a "test" box for me. It's not a critical deal, I was just
trying to help.
Just for good measure, I reloaded 2.7. No problems, and stable like a
ROCK!
