I think you're right. sb* at pci complains vigorously :) Oh, if anyone cares, I solved the 'panic: timeout table full' problem. I traced it down to a b0rken sys/kern/kern_timeout.c that I had gotten through the CVS update. I didn't realise the build process uses whatever is in the directories, instead of using .c files as specified in Makefiles. Upgrading from 2.6 to 2.7 via CVS should be interesting. -- a kinder, gentler God (in disguise) http://www.area51.dk/~angrygod/ From owner-openbsd-mobile-outgoing@naughty.monkey.org Tue May 2 15:09:47 2000 Return-Path: Delivered-To: openbsd-mobile-outgoing@naughty.monkey.org Received: by naughty.monkey.org (Postfix, from userid 502) id 5982910868A; Tue, 2 May 2000 15:09:46 -0400 (EDT) Delivered-To: openbsd-mobile@monkey.org Received: by naughty.monkey.org (Postfix, from userid 1001) id 94348108688; Tue, 2 May 2000 15:09:45 -0400 (EDT) Received: from kang.tinet.ie (kang.tinet.ie [159.134.237.28]) by naughty.monkey.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 4A7FD108688 for ; Mon, 1 May 2000 14:32:20 -0400 (EDT) Received: from wrath.eng.eircom.net ([159.134.242.214]) by kang.tinet.ie with esmtp (Exim 2.05 #23) id 12mKzT-0004Oc-00 for openbsd-mobile@monkey.org; Mon, 1 May 2000 19:32:19 +0100 Received: (from angrygod@localhost) by wrath.eng.eircom.net (8.9.3/8.9.3) id TAA06174 for openbsd-mobile@monkey.org; Mon, 1 May 2000 19:29:48 +0100 (IST) Date: Mon, 1 May 2000 19:29:48 +0100 From: Alex Holst To: openbsd-mobile@monkey.org Subject: OpenBSD-mobile: on-board video/Dell Latitude CPi Message-ID: <20000501192948.A19273@oceanfree.net> References: <20000425042040.C5812@oceanfree.net> <200004251312.e3PDCtJ21827@lucifier.remote.dti.net> <20000430155801.A13329@oceanfree.net> Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii X-Mailer: Mutt 1.0.1i In-Reply-To: <20000430155801.A13329@oceanfree.net>; from angrygod@oceanfree.net on Sun, Apr 30, 2000 at 03:58:01PM +0100 Sender: openbsd-mobile-owner@monkey.org Precedence: bulk 'ello again, Is it true that the NeoMagic chipset in this machine can only show X on the LCD display? If it's a PS/2 mouse that should work. On that note I've recently discovered (just call me magellan) this: Protocol "IMPS/2" Device "/dev/psm0" The IMPS/2 let's you use the scrolly button on a newer intellimouse as button two. Voila cheap three button. It still works with just PS/2 (two button and you turn on emulate 3, etc) which is why it's interesting that yours doesn't when docked/closed. It could be a bios thing though. On thinkpads you have the single ps/2 out. You can put either a keyboard or a mouse in that or you buy this "butterfly" cable from IBM for like $60. I was at a swap meet the other day though and came across a $6 one. Because of IBM's attempt to force people to buy their expensive adapter they appear to have reversed the keyboard and mouse input into the cable. SO if I plug M into K and K into M it works. But anyway getting back to BIOS. On the Thinkpad you can disable the internal pointing device (which people like to call the cat tongue because of its grippiness) and just use the external or have both. Perhaps there's some bios-related setting to have a look at. regards, neal ___________ d neal wise - nwise@spy.net SPY internetworking - will network for food http://www.spy.net From owner-openbsd-mobile-outgoing@naughty.monkey.org Wed May 3 21:03:44 2000 Return-Path: Delivered-To: openbsd-mobile-outgoing@naughty.monkey.org Received: by naughty.monkey.org (Postfix, from userid 502) id 23B97108694; Wed, 3 May 2000 21:03:43 -0400 (EDT) Delivered-To: openbsd-mobile@monkey.org Received: by naughty.monkey.org (Postfix, from userid 1001) id 6D594108692; Wed, 3 May 2000 21:03:42 -0400 (EDT) Received: from citi.umich.edu (citi.umich.edu [141.211.92.141]) by naughty.monkey.org (Postfix) with SMTP id 7E3BD108692 for ; Wed, 3 May 2000 21:02:02 -0400 (EDT) Received: from [206.88.153.42] by citi.umich.edu for openbsd-mobile@monkey.org with SMTP; Wed, 03 May 00 21:01:02 -0400 From: Jim Rees To: openbsd-mobile@monkey.org Date: Wed, 03 May 2000 21:00:50 -0400 Subject: Re: OpenBSD-mobile: on-board video/Dell Latitude CPi In-Reply-To: neal wise, Wed, 03 May 2000 17:32:05 PDT Message-Id: <20000504010202.7E3BD108692@naughty.monkey.org> Sender: openbsd-mobile-owner@monkey.org Precedence: bulk The IMPS/2 let's you use the scrolly button on a newer intellimouse as button two. My problems (non-laptop specific) involve the pointer being extremely granular, and occasionaly getting stuck where it runs into the upper right hand corner and won't come back. Gotta restart X when that happens. If I switch from IMPS/2 and psm to MouseSystems and pms, it works beautifully (except the middle roller clicker doesn't work as a third button). > On the Thinkpad you can > disable the internal pointing device (which people like to call the cat > tongue because of its grippiness) > > Around here we've always called it the "nipple." The only problem with disabling it is having to re-enable it w/o a pointing device :) I tend to disable it when I'm parking my laptop for a while because of the tendency for the trackpoint to drift as it aligns itself (that's the excuse IBM gave me). Since then the driver now loops like a DMA conflict (for no apparent reason -- i realize the neomagic av doesn't use dma but ring buffers setup from avail chip memory instead) dmesg looks normal through sb0... as well as the fact that while the "sound looping takes place", no messages are sent to console complaining about conflicts of any sort. Now, when the neo driver is tried, it gets to the line where neo attaches to irq 11 and the entire laptop locks up. A physical power reset is the only cure. Using A11 (the latest revision of the Dell Inspiron 3500 PhoenixBIOS), the sound chip CAN be set to irq 11 (although it complains about locking the port and asks to reenter BIOS). Of course if resume is chosen instead, the BIOS locks irq 11 still and the neo driver can't use it (since irq 11 is all it will ever try, it errors out complaining about pin 2 and continues on through the boot). I have had sound on my Dell Inspiron 3500 via the sb0 driver since the 2.6 code freeze (prior to release)... now sound is completely gone no matter if I choose sb0, neo or wss -- no port, irq or dma 8/16 allocations will prove successful... (Yes, every combination was tried via BIOS and UKC for all three drivers)... neo will lock up ALL the time unless the sound chip bios is set to occupy that irq -- which bios itself complains about and will not allow. Any ideas? It would be nice to have sound back after having it working in obsd for well over 6 months. -- obecian http://402686256 From owner-openbsd-mobile-outgoing@naughty.monkey.org Tue May 9 16:11:27 2000 Return-Path: Delivered-To: openbsd-mobile-outgoing@naughty.monkey.org Received: by naughty.monkey.org (Postfix, from userid 502) id EB7A810869C; Tue, 9 May 2000 16:11:26 -0400 (EDT) Delivered-To: openbsd-mobile@monkey.org Received: by naughty.monkey.org (Postfix, from userid 1001) id 262BC108695; Tue, 9 May 2000 16:11:26 -0400 (EDT) Received: from cx33363-a.dt1.sdca.home.com (cx33363-a.dt1.sdca.home.com [24.0.129.48]) by naughty.monkey.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 36D1E10867F for ; Mon, 8 May 2000 16:49:09 -0400 (EDT) Received: (from obecian@localhost) by cx33363-a.dt1.sdca.home.com (8.10.1/8.9.3) id e48Ki2g23337 for openbsd-mobile@monkey.org; Mon, 8 May 2000 13:44:02 -0700 (PDT) Date: Mon, 8 May 2000 13:44:02 -0700 From: obecian To: openbsd-mobile@monkey.org Subject: OpenBSD-mobile: ne* pcmcia issues Message-ID: <20000508134402.B2487@cx33363-a.dt1.sdca.home.com> Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii X-Mailer: Mutt 1.0.1i Sender: openbsd-mobile-owner@monkey.org Precedence: bulk Well it seems Netgear has pulled a fast one (?)... The new FA410TX cards no longer work on the current ne* at pcmcia. dmesg is worthless as it looks perfectly normal (like the old netgear). The proof is in the fact that no matter what irq is chosen, ne0/ne3 (depending on kernel) will guarantee to timeout under the following circumstances: 1) boot up is fine, dmesg looks normal... noted that the first octet of the mac address has risen to 01: rather than 00: (major revision?) in the vendor code. Also noticed the dongle has completely different words representing each light. 2) ifconfig and route work dandy as well 3) ping it's own ip address and loopback - ok as well 4) ping default route -- timeouts occur. Now I've been using this card since the 2.5 code freeze when I helped federico test it. Any ideas for quick fixes -- I've got dozens of company laptops with this issue.
