Could you elaborate on this topic and explain the reason for separate port?
Not everyone is going to update immediately. Also loads of the p5- ports will
have issues or be incompatible.
ITs going to be dual lifed like perl 5.6
lang/perl5
lang/perl5.8
lang/perl5.10
5.8.8 -> 5.8.9 is a 'patch release' witness the cvs commits for that
5.6-x -> 5.8.8-> 5.10.x are major release.
hopefully we'll drop 5.6.x once 5.10 is since its not maintained upstream and
is the last release is over a decade ago.
